Alternate Water Sources

Have you checked into other water sources that may be available to you? For instance, reclaimed water if available in your area has many benefits. It is recycled waste water provided by local water purveyors that has been super chlorinated and treated for irrigation usage. It is recognized by a lavender/purple color piping system. It is inexpensive to irrigate with reclaimed water, and water restrictions DO NOT APPLY to it's usage. With reclaimed water, you can irrigate as often as you like. Of course, remember that over watering can cause problems to occur in your lawn, so water wisely. What better way to water your lawn while also saving money.

Another great source of water are well systems. As a licensed SWFTMUD contractor API can assist you by installing a pump and well system. Shallow wells are great for residential or light commercial irrigation only in most locations in the tri-county area. Shallow wells can be installed inexpensively and utilize a centrifugal pump (above ground pump). A shallow well is one that is 28' or less in depth that uses water from the surficial or intermediate aquifer. Wells use "free" water while reducing spending on potable water on your lawn. Once the initial pump and well costs are incurred, it is very inexpensive to operate the pump. Deep wells are used for both commercial and residential irrigation or even as potable water when set up correctly. Deep wells typically go 100'+ in depth and utilize a submersible pump (in ground pump) in the well. Prices range based on pump size and depth to obtain water.

Lake feed pump systems are another great way to use water resources around us. If you have a pond or lake on your property, a pump and suction pipe can be installed to use this water for irrigation only. A lake screen/filter is installed in the water source with a float to keep it off the bottom. This will prevent muck and debris to be sucked into the filter and piping system. After the initial installation cost, operation is rather inexpensive to and again, water is free. Prices also vary based on pump size/suction piping etc. Regardless, it will save potable water and dollars. Please note that any well systems are not exempt from water restrictions.
